Writing Site Review: Snipsly
By Christina Mulberry
As internet marketers, we are often on the search for more writing sites to promote our work. Certainly finding one good one and mastering it is a worthy goal although certainly time intensive. However, for better results, finding additional sites that add to the revenue stream and allow us to promote the work we've already done is wise. In my endless quest for good writing sites, I have come across a growing number of options in recent years. Here I will provide a rather cursory review of a writing site called Snipsly. I have worked with the site for only a couple of weeks but want to provide information about what I have found thus far. -Format and Navigation Snipsly has a rather minimalistic look, but it is clean and the navigation is simple. The format as you post appears to be that of a WordPress blog. There are few instructions that I have found, making it less user friendly than some sites. On the other hand there isn't much complexity either. After signing up, users merely go to their account, select Posts, and then "add new" to produce their first article. The text editor allows even inexperienced users to insert links and other media easily. Once an article is published, the appearance is actually quite professional looking although the font is a bit small. -Revenue Potential At this time, I believe the only revenue potential is an 80% Google Adsense Revenue Share. Users merely submit their code to gain this income. Therefore, traffic to your articles is of paramount importance. After writing my articles, I have submitted them to one or two bookmarking sites, and then just let them lie. There is a counter to tell you the number of page views, comments, and ratings. As I've not made any "friends" on the site at this point, my visits are around 5 to 10 per week. However, my Adsense revenue at this point is averaging 15 cents per day, total. This isn't much of course, but I've only been there two weeks and don't have a dedicated following. There is no referral program. -Page Rank Posting articles on a site with high page rank is clearly preferrable. Snipsly has a page rank of 3/10 at this time. Certainly not something that is particularly impressive, but it may improve dramatically in the coming months. Only time will tell. -Backlinks Snipsly does allow writers to include "DoFollow" backlinks. I've been unable to find a limit to this number. I've posted one, two, and even three "DoFollow" links per article with no problem. -Convenience Once you've figured out where things are, the site provides a posting experience that's very expedient. Articles have to be a minimum of three sentences but of course longer ones are the norm. My posts have varied between 150 words to 850 words. There is no review process that I'm aware of, as my articles are published immediately. I believe you can lose this status of getting immediate publication however, if you violate posting rules. Things such as keyword stuffing will get you booted. -Community It took me a week to find other posters. The front page displays the most recently posted articles but beyond that I was not sure how to find other submissions and authors. Slowly this has become apparent to me and I now log into my account dashboard and click on Snipsly posts to view other activity. I am not aware of any forum or a way to "follow" or message other authors, so overall, I would say the community aspect is lacking. In summary, based on the ease of posting, the ability to earn a bit of revenue, as well as "DoFollow" backlinks I will continue to use Snipsly to promote my other work. At this time I would not consider it as a primary writing site. I will reassess Snipsly's progress in a few months. |

I am always looking to learn something new. I of course signed up. My Profile My first article The password they generate is huge. I changed that right away. Got my Adsense account added with no problem. When they sent the email notification both my login URL and profile URL were unclickable links in the email. This is easy to fix. I simply hit reply and deleted their email address as recipient and added my email address. After copying and pasting an making both links click-able I emailed it to myself.

That's pretty much my attitude, trying new things is how you learn what will and won't work. See you there.
Interesting and informative intel. It is always good to find a site that offers do follow backlinks. Thanks for the tip. Its worth a few posts to experiment.
Very useful, thanks. It's actually a Wordpress blog which is very easy to use, though for article writing where additional feedback details are wanted it doesn't really compare. I made a post anyway, and it's something I will probably use from time to time. It certainly looks good for gaining backlinks.

Agreed. I doubt I would use it as my primary writing site, but it's quick and easy making it great for supporting the work I do elsewhere.
I've now created 5 or 6 articles (or posts), all of decent length I think. Christina, have you used a Google Analytics code to assess how popular the site is at all? I haven't done so yet, just wondered whether you'd got any feedback if you'd done that.

You know, I haven't. But that would certainly be worth knowing. Need to carve out a few minutes to get that done, I was gone for a cpl of days.
