Why Seniors Might Enjoy a Wireless Digital Photo Frame

By Christina Mulberry

Technology brings us some wonderful gadgets that improve our lives. Cell phones allow us to stay connected at all times and help provide security. Digital cameras allow us to create and share pictures more easily and to be even more creative in that endeavor. Many televisions now offer us greater control over the entertainment we view, allowing us to schedule viewing times to suit our schedules versus those of broadcasters.

Unfortunately, for some who can benefit most from technology, there are many barriers. Technology is often designed for a core demographic that is more adept at handling complex menus, tiny buttons, and so forth than the average person over 70 years of age. There are of course some exceptions. Some devices are actually quite user friendly and allow even those who are extremely tech shy to enjoy or benefit from what they have to offer.

Digital photo frames are basic devices that primarily allow you to enjoy photos of loved ones on a very attractive LCD display. They can be programmed to display dozens of photos and to even set them to music. They are certainly a great way of getting your photos out of a drawer and out where you can appreciate them more. Some seniors reject such devices since they may not feel comfortable with gadgets, may not own a digital camera, or be comfortable even handling SD cards and the like. To them, these types of gadgets just seem to add complexity.

However, wireless digital photo frames offer a number of features that seem to be well suited even to a senior who may be tech shy or simply unfamiliar with digital devices. The wireless version of these frames offer the following advantages:

1. The ability to enjoy hundreds of photos rather than just one placed in a traditional frame.

2. They are brighter and easier to view than a traditional photo in a frame.

3. The don't fade. Over time photographs can fade, but the images on an LCD screen, created from digital information, do not. They are as beautiful 3 years later, as they are the day they are created.

3. In some circumstances, the photos on the wireless digital photo frame can be updated with no effort at all. For instance, if a senior has a frame, family members can have their photos automatically uploaded to it when they post those images on popular photo sharing sites. This is a great way to assure seniors aren't as isolated and they always have current photos.

4. Many wireless digital photo frames also have auto on and off features. This means that they will save energy but will also assure that the photos they enjoy will always be present, even if they don't remember to turn the device on each day.

5. Simple controls are also important. Certainly, families can set up the digital photo frame, get it ready to receive any photos, and so forth. In addition, many of them have basic remote controls which are far easier than most TV remotes that seniors may use routinely. Others offer touch screen controls that are very intuitive. Complex menu navigation is generally absent from such devices.

6. Seniors may also appreciate other features that are available such as the ability to get news forecasts and so forth if connected to the internet.

When families are able to provide set up support and just a bit of teaching, many gadgets are useful even for those seniors who generally avoid more complex devices.

Yeah, I've seen these things. There are several different types and styles. It's great for all ages, but especially seniors. Good job.
