Why Amateurs Need a Digital Camera

There are still a large number of people who have not used a digital camera. They may have a film camera that they enjoy using or they may not own a camera at all. When such people decide they're in the market for a new camera, digital models offer a number of benefits for them to consider. -- Better photographs. The typical digital camera does not capture better images than a good film camera. However, they allow the user to see their pictures immediately. When the shot doesn't meet expectations, it can be discarded and another taken. This assures you don't return home from a trip and find out that none of your shots do justice to the views that you enjoyed while away. In addition, photos taken with a digital camera can be edited at home on the computer; some cameras even allow a bit of editing on the camera itself. This helps to correct minor problems and create better photographs. Another feature which makes better photos possible, even for beginners, are the numerous "scene" modes and automated functions that assure a novice gets the right exposure and focus needed. For instance, a landscape mode helps assure the important items across a scene are all in focus while a "sports" or action mode can help capture movement without blurring. Newer technologies like face and smile detection help assure you get the best shots of loved ones. -- Long term cost savings. Because shots that aren't worthy are identified immediately, they can be deleted. With a film camera, the photographer paid for them to be developed despite the fact that they didn't "pass muster". In addition, there is no need to purchase film. -- Convenience. If you want prints of your photos there is no need to go to the store and wait a few hours or days for your photographs. With a digial camera you can download the images to your computer or printer and do the work at home if you wish. -- Creativity. As mentioned above, a digital camera allows you to take control of the creative process. You can edit your own photos not only to correct errors but to add in items, change colors, and so forth. There are creative effects that many cameras and editing programs allow you to use. Because the images are digital, you also have many other options such as including your photographs on webpages, on calendars, in books, on coffee cups, T-Shirts, and other items. -- More options for sharing your photos. As mentioned above, digital images give you a number of options as far as how to use your photos. In addition, they can be sent via e-mail or can be displayed on television or in a digital picture frame.
Certainly, film cameras have some advantages as well, but for many amateurs, digital cameras make photography easier, more convenient, and even more affordable in the long run. |
