Where to Write Content on the Web

By Cristina Mulberry

Millions of people have become internet marketers. Some have their own brick and mortar store with an associated website to pull in additional business. Some sell their services or products exclusively online. Others are affiliate marketers trying to make commissions from the products and services offered by established businesses. Although there are differences in their business model, they all soon learn that one of the primary ways of promoting a business online is to create unique and useful content; content that informs, entertains, or somehow adds value for visitors, or potential visitors, to their website or webpage.

This content can establish the writer as an authority on a given topic. In turn, web visitors begin to "follow" this expert based on the trust that is formed over time. By inserting a link or two, good content can also create backlinks to the writers website or webpage which drives it up in search results.

The intent of this article or "intel" is to assist new internet marketers in identifying some of the easiest ways of assuring the content they create gets discovered by the audiences they seek.

One simple way of getting content published is to start a blog. Blogs are somewhat informal and thus, many who are not professional writers feel most comfortable with this format. Blogs can be created and written virtually cost free. In fact, it is possible to make money through blogging alone. For instance, the use of advertising on a blog can bring in additional revenue. WordPress and Blogger are two examples of popular blogging platforms that are readily available. Blogs have the added benefit of allowing readers to participate with comments and questions. This is a great way of building a following.

It's not within the scope of this "intel" to cover the various techniques which should be employed to assure the success of a blog, but there are many other resources online and in bookstores that can fill that need. However, it is important to understand that a blog must be promoted in order for it to succeed. A blog can be well written and filled to the brim with unique and useful content, but never be seen. Submitting a blog to sites such as Technorati or Zimbio however can help it get attention, particularly if the writer participates in the "community".

Another effective way of publishing content is through "authority pages". These do not cost the writer anything and, in fact, many allow them to earn additional income through advertising and affiliate sales. Examples of such "authority page" sites are Google Knol, Hubpages, Squidoo, Qassia, Gather, and Zimbio.

The content that an internet marketer creates can also be easily syndicated. A writer can create an article specifically for the purpose of allowing other sites to use the content for free. The "pay back" for the writer is to get their name out across the web and establish a reputation. In addition, links back to their website are included in their author bio, providing the vital backlinks that will boost their site/pages to the top of searches. There are innumerable free article directories on the internet where a writer can submit unique and useful content for distribution. Among some of the best are EzineArticles.com, ArticleDashboard.com, and GoArticles.com.

Although this is a very surface discussion on the topic of internet marketing via content creation, it will hopefully get beginners started in the right direction.

You say that your article is a surface discussion, and yet there is no doubt that such a summary as yours will be very helpful to anyone that sees it. I hope you will continue with your efforts.
