When is a Disposable Waterproof Camera the Right Choice?
By Christina Mulberry
For consumers who want to be able to shoot photos that might potentially expose delicate equipment to moisture, a waterproof camera can be a good choice. There are a handful of compact waterproof cameras on the market but certainly before incurring the expense it might be wise to consider another option: a disposable waterproof camera. The likely question is "when is a disposable waterproof camera the right choice?" Here are some things to consider: -- Expense A disposable waterproof camera is a rather economical option. If a consumer's budget is currently limited then the expense of a $40 disposable is certainly a better option than a full featured waterproof camera. -- First time buyers For consumers who are wanting a waterproof camera for activities such as snokeling and diving, it's often wise to give it a try before investing in expensive equipment. Using a camera while swimming isn't always as easy as anticipated. Using a simple disposable first might help in making the decision. -- Occasional use A disposable waterproof camera is also ideal if the need for underwater photography is very occasional. For instance, for a single vacation or visit to the beach. Another example would be for individuals who have a camera they love, but who would like to take along a disposable in case the weather turns off bad during their hiking trip and they don't want to risk exposing their regular camera to the drizzle or snow. This occasional use doesn't often justify the expense of a full featured waterproof camera. -- For use by kids The other situation that makes these disposable cameras a good option is for young children. If the purpose of the camera is to allow kids to shoot pictures in the pool, at a pool party, at the beach, or in the tub, then an inexpensive disposable is often the way to go. -- An existing camera that works just fine If individual already owns a camera that fits their needs in general, it's seldom worth it for them to invest in a second camera. Even for professionals who have a lot of money tied up in equipment, they often buy a waterproof housing versus an entire camera. Waterproof cameras are perfect in many situations and for those who take a lot of photos underwater. For many of us however, a disposable waterproof camera will fit the need. |
