Stopping Cell Phone Spam
By Cristina Mulberry
For those who own and use a cell phone, the realization that spam no longer exists just with e-mail is hitting home. Unwanted calls and text messages from marketers are annoying in any instance. With a cell phone however, the receiver experiences more than inconvenience; they potentially bear the cost of such calls and messages. However, there are a number of ways to fight back. Firstly, of course, it's important to register your number on the "do not call list" at DoNotCall.gov. Secondly, users also need to be sure to avoid giving out their phone number. This includes assuring that they don't inadvertently give others permission to call or message them when purchasing or signing up for other services. Another safeguard is to block numbers and domains from which telemarketers will most often contact you. With most cellular services and cell phones, users are able to block calls from "private" or "unknown" numbers which identifies most telemarketing calls. In most instances, users can also block text messages that originate from the internet by going to the website of their cellular provider. The internet of course is the source of most spam or telemarketing messages. For those who still receive unwanted marketing messages, a call to their cellular provider is in order. Charges for such spam should be reversed. Certainly, spam is not the only source of unwanted calls or messages. Readers can learn more about handling such nuisances at the link listed below. |
