Social Bookmarking: A Review of RedGage
By Christina Mulberry
Most internet marketers would agree that social bookmarking is an essential element in promoting your website or webpages. These sites allow you to network, make friends, develop a following, increase traffic, establish backlinks, and so forth. In the past few years, they've also become a source for additional income. Increasingly these social sites allow you to earn AdSense income for the ads placed on your bookmarked pages. Two such sites that I have used are Tagfoot and RedGage. Now that I've been a participant on the RedGage site for about nine months, I thought it was time that I should provide my own, informal review of the site. Like almost any review that I do, this will look only at the basics to let readers know about my own experience in order to help them determine whether or not the site is worth their time. Before I start however, I need to make a statement about my participation to put all of my comments and assessment in perspective. I have actively used the site to bookmark a number of my webpages and a few of my blogs. I have spent a limited amount of time however fostering relationships on the site. Therefore, I would assume my results are less than ideal based on my failure to dedicate time toward building a following. With that in mind, I will proceed. -- Bookmarking I like the flexibility of RedGage. The site allows you to bookmark articles, webpages, blogs, and similar content. You can also bookmark videos, photos, and other documents. You can even run a RedGage Blog. At RedGage, there is no penalty for bookmarking your own things. In fact, that's what most people submit. It's nice not to have to be timid about promoting your own content. Of course other users appreciate quality content versus sales pages and so forth. SPAM is not something I've found on the site at all. I would consider the quality of the content that I have viewed there to be high. -- Community I consider the RedGage community to be active and open. I've had no difficulty adding nearly 380 friends although I've spent minimal time seeking them out. I do of course visit their content periodically, comment, rate, and so forth. Overall, connecting with people has been very easy. I've had only one single instance of receiving a negative comment and have not observed any flaming or contentious discussions. -- Income Redgage pays users for page views. The amount you are paid varies based upon the quality of your submissions. This incomes builds very gradually. I've probably only earned $19 in the nine months I've been there based upon the page views generated by my submitted content. Again, I feel this is low due to my limited level of interaction. In addition, RedGage randomly selects content they like to feature on the home page each day. These featured items earn a small bonus. I've earned an additional $19 (approximately) from featured bonuses. Another way of earning on RedGage is through drawings and contests that occur periodically. They often run a daily, weekly, and monthly contest. I have won $250 in contests; ones that I didn't even know about at the time. -- Traffic I haven't tracked traffic to my pages closely, but I know in the first few months I was averaging a 7% increase in traffic from pages submitted to RedGage. Certainly with more participation on my part I believe traffic, as well as income, could be significantly improved. -- Focus The RedGage community seems to appreciate art and photography above other kinds of content. Any photo submitted is quickly visited and is often featured. This doesn't mean that other content doesn't receive attention, but art and photography have performed best for me and/or is found featured on the front page more often. -- Speed and Navigation This is the primary area of need on RedGage in my eyes. The site is often excruciatingly slow. Navigation is also a bit cumbersome. I find that I have to click too many times to get from point A to point B, and that has been part of the reason why I haven't been more actively engaged. It has improved since the early days, but further improvements need to occur if the site is to continue to grow. -- Support This is an area that I feel is exceptionally good. Any problem that I have reported has received an immediate response, and subsequent resolution. RedGage has staff that circulate among members, commenting on content, and engaging in general. They greet you when you join and invite questions. There are tutorials to help you learn the ropes as well; all of this acting to guide you when you need it most. -- Backlinks RedGage offers do follow backlinks which allows you to build search engine recognition as you bookmark. Overall I would recommend RedGage. It does earn additional income, allow you to easily build DoFollow backlinks, and the community is certainly an inviting one. |

Hope you find them useful.
Although I no longer use AdSense (InfoLinks suit me better), this is an interesting Intel. Thanks for posting it.

I used to abhor the links inserted into the text of my article. But, I must admit that I've grown more accepting of them over time, especially when they aren't over used on a page. Squidoo began using Infolinks some time ago, and I must say the results were great.
Hi Christina, I bookmarked both this intel and Redgage for ron. Wishing you all the best. Reg More about my interests here.

Great, hope it's useful.
I just got around to joining, but I can't get it to add my blogs unfortunately. I have 2 Wordpress blogs and Associated Content that I would like to add.
