Sending Text Messages to a Landline

Millions of cell phone users have fallen in love with text messaging. It offers many a quick and easy way to stay in touch, especially when voice calls are too disruptive. For those who are in class, a meeting, in a quiet zone such as a library, or a number of other situations, a brief and silent text message offers a great way to communicate. However, for some consumers text messaging isn't a preferred method of communication as they are uncomfortable with punching the tiny keypad of the typical cell phone or the process itself. There are also a number of instances in which an intended recipient may not be available by cell phone whether they don't own one or they're simply more available via their landline. In any of these instances however, there are still options available to make use of text messaging as needed. A cell phone user is able to send text messages to landline phones readily in many instances. These text messages are then translated into voice messages for the recipient. The sender will then receive notice that their message has been received. In fact, in most instances, the recipient will even be able to send a reply back to the sender if such communication is necessary. Another benefit of these text to voice type applications is that they make text message communications with visually impaired individuals easy as well.
Many of the traditional US cellular companies provide these services to their customers and they will function with any phone. Sprint, Verizon Wireless, Alltel, and Qwest all have such options. Many consumers aren't aware of the availability of this option. Texting to a landline generally doesn't require users to sign up for any additional service and carries the same charge as any other type of text messaging in most instances. Users however should check with their individual carrier, as some do charge a premium. The recipient generally is not charged for the voice message. The process for sending text messages to a landline phone is simple. The user merely sends their text to the intended landline phone number; or phone numbers. Group messages can also be sent to multiple landline numbers. Although text messages sent to landline numbers will probably never become the norm, it is a service that can be very convenient and easy for those who have co-workers, friends, and family members who are more available by landline. |

Hi Mulberry, That is soooooo cool! Text messaging, like email, is preferable to me than a phone conversation in a lot of cases -- no opportunity to get high jacked into long conversations past the reason for the call! ;) Very good to know info! Thanks,
