Rebecca Hiatt: Landscape Photographer

I met Rebecca Hiatt as a child. Actually, she is my sister. She is the person who I most recall caring for me. She is five years older and often played the role of babysitter and often filled my time acting as a teacher as well. Learning about history, a little French, whatever came along. I always thought she was creative; coming up with games, writing stories for her younger sisters to enjoy, and so forth. We grew up in a rural area and enjoyed nature excursions with my father especially. Hiking in parks and nature preserves, heading out into the woods, ice skating on frozen streams, and bicycling on country roads past cows, horses, and other less domesticated animals. Our family vacations to Yellow Stone, the Smokey Mountains, Niagra Falls, and other locations were filled with excitement. I'm sure this is where she, and I as well, developed our love of the beauty of nature. But Rebecca was creative. My father gave her a Brownie camera as a youngster and she started a lifelong hobby and fascination with photography. Although certainly she has many photos of family and friends, the themes of nature, rural America, and the nuances of all of the seasons are the flavor of her work. She now resides in Chattanooga Tennessee, in a beautiful wooded, and rolling area and close to the revived and historic areas of downtown. Her love of her work shows through and in time I would expect that many others will become aquainted with her remarkable photographs. |
