Products for the Hearing Impaired to Improve Telephone Communication

For millions of individuals with a significant hearing loss, communicating over the telephone can be difficult. Without the ability to see the other person's face, reduced volume, and the limited ability of a telephone to transmit all of the auditory signals, it can be particularly difficult to understand others over the telephone. However, there are a number of products on the market that can be extremely useful in remedying many of the difficulties encountered by the hearing impaired. -- Amplified Telephones Special amplified telephones can provide a variety of useful features. Many can amplify volume by as much as 50db depending upon the phone selected. They can also offer amplified ringers. The majority of amplified phones are hearing aid compatible and offer speaker phone capabilities as well. -- Amplifiers Although not as effective as an amplified telephone, there are also small amplifiers that can be attached to an existing handset which will provide increased volume as well. Amplifying headsets are also available. -- Flashers Flashers are available to give a visual alert to those who might miss a ringing telephone. These can be used in conjunction with an amplified phone and alert the user to calls via a flashing lamp. -- Bed Shakers Bed Shakers are another great alerting system for those who might otherwise miss calls. These can alert the user to their alarm clock as well as incoming calls on their telephone.
