How Do Squidoo Pages Make Money?
By Cristina Mulberry
There are many sites online which marketers tout as being great ways to earn income on the internet. Most of them by themselves will not earn enough to support a family or even an individual comfortably, but can add to the arsenal a marketer builds for creating multiple streams of income. One such site that marketers will hear about is Squidoo. Squidoo is an information site made up of individual, hand-built pages composed by "lensmasters"; those people across the globe that feel they have something to say or an expertise to share. Squidoo is also a co-op. The money that Squidoo makes through affiliate sales and AdSense is shared between members, Squidoo, and charity. Individual lensmasters in fact can choose to donate an additional amount of their earnings to charity if they wish. For the curious, here is a bit of information about how building Squidoo pages can earn income for internet marketers. - Adsense Revenue: Squidoo webpages, otherwise known as lenses, should be filled with written content, links, video, and other items that focus narrowly on a given topic. Google ads are then automatically generated to display on the page. At the end of each month, the total Adsense revenue generated by all Squidoo pages is divided up; 5% goes to charity, 45% goes to Squidoo, and the other 50% goes to the lensmasters or the charities they select. The size of the payment allocated to a given lens is hypothesized to be related to it's "lensrank" which is assumed to be related to the traffic it receives and related performance statistics. - Affiliate Sales: Squidoo pages are very easy to make and a number of useful tools are offered to add great content. Another option is to add "modules" to sell items from sites such as e-Bay, Amazon, Netflix and others. Lensmasters don't have to sign up to become an affiliate to do this, so it is quick and convenient even if affiliate marketing isn't your business. Affiliate commissions/Royalties from such sales are also paid each month. - Outside Affiliate Sales: Lensmasters can also earn income from affiliate programs ouside of Squidoo via their Squidoo lenses. For those who work as an affiliate, it is easy to incorporate product links into a lens. Income generated would be a direct result of the Squidoo page but would be paid directly from the respective affiliate program versus Squidoo. Certainly there are also many indirect ways that Squidoo pays; from building backlinks to a primary website or blog to building relationships with the active Squidoo community to help propel your business forward. However, the direct income from Squidoo is not insignficant and for some of the most successful lensmasters, it is actually very impressive.
