Finding an Easy to Use Cell Phone

By Cristina Mulberry

There are a number of cell phones on the market which are designed for very simple voice communication. Phones such as the Safe Guardian one button GPS phone or the Jitterbug models which offer voice calling only are among the options. However, for many seniors and other individuals as well, a simpler cell phone is desirable but they want more functionality than such phones offer.

Some of the more frequently requested features by such individuals are larger keypads, voice dialing, and external displays for easy viewing. Voice driven and intuitive menus are often mentioned as well.

There are some phones on the market which better meet such needs.

-- The Nokia 6085 offers a fairly simple and larger than typical keypad, voice dialing, voice driven menus, and speakerphone. It also happens to be hearing aid and TTY compatible. In addition to these convenience features it gives users multimedia messaging and web browsing capabilities as well as an MP3 player and digital camera.

-- The Pantech Breeze is another option. It features a speakerphone, large well spaced buttons, and 3 pre-programmable quick call buttons. It's menus are simple and the print is a bit larger than most cell phones. In addition, the Breeze provides users with a digital camera, downloadable games as well as text and picture messaging capabilities. This phone also has web browsing and bluetooth capabilities.

-- The Verizon Coupe is a good choice for those with more basic needs. It features a spacious keypad and four speed dial buttons as well as voice dialing. For those with difficulty hearing on a cell phone, it offers a speaker phone and is hearing aid compatible. It has a bright, color external display and provides picture and text messaging abilities in addition to it's calling features.

The phones above are examples of those which are easier to handle yet capable of more than just voice calling.
